Notes

A truly wonderful and very original set: post war Soviet ‘Donkey Ear’ observation binoculars with lens covers come with original tripod and wood transport backpack with carry straps. Produced virtually continuously after World War 2 in Poland and other Soviet (USSR) countries under licence, these transportable binoculars have a 10x45 magnification. The viewed object is magnified 10x with an objective lens 4.5 cm across. These observation optics are also known as ‘Donkey Ear’ or ‘Trench Binoculars’, designed for observation of enemy lines from cover, including cross border monitoring, such as the Berlin Wall and East/ West German lines. This set is stamped MWR 792, the box ASZT and we date this set to circa 1980.

By loosening the central lock, the lenses move into horizontal position to widen the field of view. The Tripod is made from wood with locking legs for a more stable platform, these binoculars are presented in excellent condition with neither mould nor fogging to the glass elements, and without damage to the lenses. Versatile and usable, these make for a fabulous addition to any living or working space.

Specification: box: 30cm wide, 21cm long, 47cm high
