Notes

Our vintage (and with a wonderful history) Rolex Submariner non date (no date), reference 5513, features a stainless steel 40mm case with stainless steel bracelet including divers extension. Of note is the wonderful gloss dial with white gold surrounded indices and tritium T Swiss 25, which has patinated. Similarly, this particular example has a patinated bezel insert, also known as a "ghost bezel". All together, this makes for one of the most attractive and complete reference 5513 Submariners we have ever handled, irrespective of year. Interestingly, this watch has had long term ownership from new, reflected in the extensive history that accompanies it. A 81**** serial, with bracelet code 93150/ 580 end links and a H clasp code, would indicate manufacture in 1983. It was originally retailed on January 9th, 1984 by Zales/ Leslie Davis, United Kingdom and the point of sale is annotated as "Boat Show" which we understand to be the London Boat Show in Earls Court, the sale taking place on the fourth day after the show opened (5th - 12th January 1984). It was paid for by credit card, and included is the original card slip via imprinter (pre-dating an EPOS device) as well as receipt for the sale. The warranty papers (non chronometer) corroborate this sale by dealer and date, albeit with the "montre no" being filled as "5513" not the serial. It was serviced in 2002 and 2004 (with service card/ paper) at Rolex Service Centre UK, and subsequently in 2013 and 2020 by the same independent jeweller in Kent UK, who also provided a valuation in period. All of the above bears the same owner's name. This has clearly been a well loved sports Rolex. Also present is the period green Rolex wallet, as well as Submariner instructions. The inner and outer box, whilst correct for the year, have a 5500 (Air King/ also a non chronometer watch) reference sticker. We understand that this was mixed up at point of sale, as these came to us with the watch. Included is, as above, tracking the watch's history: inner/ outer box, warranty papers, credit card receipt, dealer receipt, two RSC service cards, two independent jewellers service receipts, valuation, Submariner booklet. In summary, this is a stand out 5513 Rolex Submariner, with UK provenance from 1984 to date and certainly worthy of any very serious collection and without doubt one of the very best and most complete reference 5513 we have handled of any age and series.
