Notes

Our example of Rolex Explorer II 16570 is presented in outstanding and unpolished condition and was manufactured during the last years of production of the 16570, featuring the desirable re-engraved rehaut, (the RRR / Rolex and the serial around the inner bezel), as well as the cal. 3186 movement. Our Explorer II 16570 has a bracelet with little sign of stretch, the useful flip lock clasp and, being a later model, a case with no lug holes. Retailed by a Rolex authorised dealer in 2008 on a M**** Serial, our example comes with original warranty card, chronometer swing tag, translation booklet as well as inner box and outer box. The Rolex Explorer II is (see history) a highly usable watch, with a more subtle appearance to other sports or professional models, as well as an incredibly useful second time zone.

History

The Explorer II was initially conceived as a tool watch for speologists. Given the relatively limited market, the model has also attracted interest from businesspeople, those who travel or work in different timezones, as the GMT second hand allows for easy reading of a second time zone. Considered, and certainly by us at Vintage and Prestige, as an attractive alternative to other sports Rolex, given the subtle bezel design, this model has a blend of elegance and durability whilst being eminently usable day to day. The early models are also known as "Steve McQueen" or "Freccione" and the latest incarnation is often to be seen on Price Harry's wrist.
