Notes

This Rolex Oysterquartz Datejust is presented in outstanding condition. Coming complete with its original Rolex papers and extremely rare original Oysterquartz box, this "full set" would make an excellent addition to any Rolex enthusiasts collection or would make a superb daily timepiece. The Oysterquartz bracelet and clasp has little sign of use and is tight and without stretch. The clean white dial is set with applied gold Roman numerals. The Rolex Oysterquartz ceased being advertised and available in 2001 and this model, on an A serial and sale papers in the UK dated 2000 must be one of the last produced. The box, as mentioned, differed from the usual Rolex box as it has an applied hexagonal Oysterquartz badge and has the model reference, 17000 on the outer box. These models are increasingly hard to find in this condition, but as a set, the scarcity value increases significantly.

History

Following the 1970s trend to go quartz, Rolex responded by introducing the Oysterquartz, which had all of the excellent Rolex qualities coupled to a highly complicated and market leading quartz movement. The design was by Gerald Genta. Produced with an in-house movement from 1977 until 2001, it is widely accepted that 25,000 Rolex Oysterquartz watches (steel, steel and gold, gold) were produced, making this model comparatively rare. Oysterquartz provide a great vintage look and we at Vintage and Prestige love these watches.
