Orfina Porsche Design 7750 “chronograph 1”

Our vintage Porsche Design by Orfina is a very early example of the world's first black watch and the first automatic chronograph to feature day and date displays. Commissioned by FA Porsche and utilising a Valjoux 7750 automatic watch , the PVD black coating was revolutionary. Clearly inspired by the ultra-legible Porsche dials, this rapidly became an icon. This example is an early mark 1 , with Orfina above the date and English Day wheel, and Porsche Design under, Orfina clasp and crown. The overall condition is very good and certainly above average, there is were to the PVD and a small dent to the lug. The majority of these we have handled have suffered far greater degradation to the coating. Neither box nor papers are present, we date production to c.1976. The PD Orfina was a prime choice in period for military use, pilots and precision use, given the technical prowess and ease of time telling. Notably an Orfina Porsche Design was worn by Tom Cruise in Top Gun, and both Bodie and Doyle in The Profesionals. We understand Lewis collins owned one personally and was seen wearing it in Who Dares Wins. This is a superb and honest example worthy of any serious collection.
