Notes
Commissioned for the French armed forces (specifically the air Force in the beginning) and developed the 1950s, the Dodane Type 21 was issued until the late 1970s. This example features a manually wound valjoux 222 movement with flyback function, and a 39mm stainless steel case with rotating bezel. Of note is the beautifully patinated dial, with coeval hands and indices. This example is fitted to a quality leather strap with tang buckle. We estimate the original issue date to be 1969, as the case back features several FG engravings, FG meaning fin de garantie, when a review of its functioning would be required and likely set depending on the intensity of use (e.g. a fighter pilots watch). Unusually, this Type 21 has several, indicating it was in service for around 12 years. The first (usually two years after issue) is 1971, followed by 1974, 1975 and 1980. Given the estimated use of this watch, it remains in very good vintage condition, and would make a great addition to a number of collections, not least one with an aviation or military theme.
