Certina Certiday Automatic 5901-173 “UFO”

Our vintage and very rare Certina Certiday automatic reference 5901-173 features a 40mm (to crown) x 36mm (lug to lug) stainless steel 'clamshell' case with day (English) and date functions. This reference is known as the UFO, not only owing to the very 1960s space age styling, but as this reference was worn by Commander Ed Straker (played by the actor Ed Bishop) in the ITC series UFO, created and produced by Gerry Anderson. The condition of this 5901-173 is very good, there is some patination (notably at 6pm) on the dial, and a new generic leather strap and tang buckle are fitted. We date production to c.1968. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a Certiday with this case, a must for any sci-fi enthusiast or fan of proper sixties styling.
