History
Along with Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet (“AP”) is considered one of the holy trinity of haute watchmaking. Founded in 1875 by Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet , Audemars Piguet has built an enviable reputation as producing some of the highest quality timepieces known to man, being the first to make a be one of the finest in watchmaking with complex innovations and highly distinctive designs. Since 1972, the signature, or at least, best known Audemars Piguet is the Royal Oak series, culminating in the Royal Oak Offshore, which was introduced in 1993. The royal Oak is a famous design by Gerald Genta (Rolex Oysterquartz, Patek Phillipe Nautilus) and was notable also for its price on launch: the most expensive stainless steel watch of its time, and its distinctive shape, with nautical influences, reminiscent of portholes. The Edward Piguet range is named for its founder.
