Notes

A unique display piece, with the tail rudder from a Soviet World War II era Petlyakov Pe-2 Soviet twin engine dive bomber, which was used prolifically throughout World War II, being regarded as an outstanding tactical attack aircraft. This particular tail rudder was recovered from the battleground around Kursk, some 280 miles south of Moscow in Russia and is presented in original, patinated condition.

The Battle of Kursk was the last major German offensive against Russia, lasting from July until August 1943. When the German offensive faltered, the Russian armed forces mounted a significant counter attack strategy, beginning the anticipated course of the war. Not only a significant historical item, as displayed, the engineering that was undertaken is Russian aircraft, is clear to see, and there is even evidence of a small calibre gun shot hole in the tail, the location of which is marked by a removable period bullet case. It has been mounted to a Rolls Royce engine fan blade base, closely partnering two of the allied forces. This would make a superb room display piece, a room divider or could even be placed on a table in an large entrance hall or lobby.

Specification: 166cm high without base, 170cm with base, 75 cm wide and 10cm deep. The base has a 56cm diameter.
