Notes

This stunning Rolex GMT Master ref 16700 is presented in outstanding condition, and benefits from a Rolex Service (RSC UK) in March 2016 with the remainder of the 2 years warranty standing.  Our GMT Master has a new pepsi bezel fitted by Rolex Service Centre UK and retains the used black bezel with which it was originally retailed, and shows little sign of use since its service and has the protective sticker in place on the case back and the lug protectors removed but included. The serial is X*** indicating a manufacture in 1991. A full, "Full set", our Rolex GMT Master 16700 comes with its original outer box (16700 sticker intact), inner box, GMT Master booklet, leather wallet, calendar, swing tag (with serial), chronometer hologram  as well as original UK sale papers dated January 1994 and service papers dated March 2016 from Rolex UK service centre. Rolex 16700s in this condition are getting hard to find, and are proving sound investments.

History

Introduced in 1954 through a collaboration with Pan Am airways, the GMT Master was designed to measure two timezones. The red arrow hand indicates the second timezone which can be adjusted by rotating the bezel. In 1989 the GMT Master II was introduced with a quick set hour hand which could be adjusted as a timezone was crossed. The classic models were discontinued in 2007. Given the enormous length of the model’s history, this model has featured in many iconic films and on celebrities including: Clint Eastwood, Marlon Brando, Honor Blackman (as Pussy galore), Bruce Reynolds, Tom Selleck (as Magnum PI), Che Guevera, Jackie Stewart and many NASA astronauts. The 16700 model was an evolution of the classic GMT and produced from 1988 to 1999 alongside the more popular 16710 GMT Master II. These models could be considered transitional and were produced in relatively few numbers. We like the quick set date function of a 16700 which is absent on GMT Master IIs
